The State of Healthcare

Despite being a vital component of human development, access to healthcare is still uneven across the globe. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that half of the world's population does not have access to basic medical care. Spending on healthcare is about 2.1% of GDP in nations like India, which is significantly less than the 5% minimum required for universal health coverage.

More than 70% of deaths worldwide are now caused by chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. Although it is frequently disregarded, preventive care—such as routine checkups, immunizations, and lifestyle modifications—can greatly lessen this burden.

Healthcare is changing as a result of technology. Remote consultations became more common as telemedicine expanded by more than 35% during the COVID-19 pandemic. Artificial intelligence is being used to improve survival rates by early detection of diseases like cancer.

In addition to saving lives, healthcare spending strengthens economies. The workforce is more productive when the population is healthier. A safer, more resilient future depends on public health systems being strengthened today.
